Let’s Talk – Strike A Pose

For as long as I can remember people have told me that I should be a model. I never took it seriously because why model when I can eat a cheeseburger? As with anything, things change and my opinion about modeling has also. I mean, if the photographer is well known and respected and puts out quality work, why not right?

Well over the last month I’ve had the opportunity to shoot with a couple amazing photographers. One of which I met simply from a Facebook mention. Who knew that a simple tag and a little small talk could lead to meeting up with and taking some professional pictures.

At first I was a little nervous meeting up with a stranger, but my friend advised that he was a good dude and a great photographer so my trust was completely based on her judgement. Nonetheless, I ended up truly enjoying my experience and finding myself wanting to do it again. So I did.

I wasn’t quite sure what to expect from it or if I would actually be good at it. Once the ball started to roll I found that I had a lot of fun with shooting and letting my personality shine through the photos. I came ready to wear two outfits and test out a couple different shots. The first round was more like a magazine head shot. I really started to shine through in the second round in which we went to the stairwell to capture some sensual shots. Below you’ll see how those turned out…

Ooo LALA right?

Yeah I was feelin myself. It had appeared to me that modeling could be a lot of fun and thanks to major moves within the industry, I don’t have to be intimidated by weight demands. Thick girls are getting love too now. Thanks ladies for paving the way! Because I want a burger every now and again.

After receiving the touched up images it was safe to say that I had a change of heart about modeling. You ever see a picture of yourself and go “oooouuu I look scrumptious”! Yeah that was me when I saw how the pictures turned out. Needless to say my interest in modeling grew and it lead me to open myself up to more opportunities to get in front of the camera.

I had a couple other shoots with Neville, which has always been a fun good time. Like he likes to say on a regular basis “BEAST MODE”. We would have fun shooting and having some good convo as well along the way. I knew that working with Neville could open the door to working with other photographers as well. I noticed more attention after some more pictures were posted to his page.

From here a colleague of Neville’s, Lamont Weldon, reached out to me to see if I would be interested in conducting a shoot with him. At first I was a little apprehensive because I had become familiar and comfortable with Neville and wasn’t sure about shooting with a new stranger. I trusted that since he was in good standing with Neville I could trust him. It made it a lot easier knowing that he would be using Neville’s studio space and he would be there to accommodate and assist as needed.

Upon meeting Lemont, my nerves were eased and I was reassured by Neville that this was a good guy and a great photographer. Again he wanted a natural hair shoot like I’ve done in the past so I came hair out and ready. We had fun with different backdrops and settings. This was my last photo shoot, but because of the quality and good time I had, I can definitely see myself trying to get in front of the camera again sometime soon. Here’s the magic we were able to create….

Needless to say, I had a ball and I will be doing it again for SURE! I really had fun at each shoot and I kick myself for not trying modeling out sooner. I think that the stigma of being thin got in the way of me seeing the potential that I had, thus leaving me pondering all the other decisions I’ve made on a false pretense. I can’t say that I will become a professional model, however I can say that I would love to be a part of any artistic projects where photographers are in need of models. I had so much fun working with these two guys that I can’t see myself turning down a future opportunity. It’s like getting your first sip of a white chocolate mocha…….you get hooked.

Hopefully I’ll have the chance to share upcoming projects that I’ve been invited to or find on my own. I appreciate the opportunity to experience what modeling can be like and I can’t wait to take my stab at it again.

As always I thank you for taking the time to stop by and read my blog. I love yall. Until next time…..PEACE!
